Open communication: Why we value parent involvement

The International School of Creative Science - Muwaileh is one of the best British schools in Sharjah because of our inclusivity and openness. We do not make decisions behind closed doors in isolation. Instead, we include major decision makers and caregivers because we know that it takes all of us working together to create the best environment for our students.

We have chosen a progressive approach to our administration because we understand the importance of parents’ involvement in their children’s academic and personal progress. We also recognise the fact that students whose parents are more involved in their schools have fewer behavioural and academic problems, a trend that extends from Primary school into as Secondary school as well.

Parental involvement, whether in the classroom or through coordinated efforts with the teachers, shows children how vested teachers and parents are in their intellectual and personal growth, which is an important realisation for a child. Students perceive this involvement positively and are motivated to push themselves to work harder in all aspects of their lives.

It is also encouraging for teachers to work with involved parents. Parent-teacher meetings throughout the year keep parents abreast with their children’s achievements and obstacles and allows parents ample opportunities to help their child grow in a nurturing environment. This feedback loop reduces any miscommunications and shrinks the communication gap that could otherwise hinder a child’s progress.

What makes the International School of Creative Science - Muwaileh one of the best British schools in Sharjah is our belief that a student’s success is a shared vision where all parties have a role to play. A child’s academic journey is a learning process for the teachers, parents and the school. Throughout this journey, we emphasise effective communication and a two-way flow of information through parent-teacher meetings, newsletters, and even informal methods, such as phone calls and email messages. The increase in parental attendance in schools has improved our students’ academic and personal accomplishments, which is an achievement we all can celebrate.
