As the UAE government, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, embarks on its Vision 2021 mission to shape UAE into a model nation, a number of key developments are taking place in the education sector. 

The UAE National Agenda, which is the seven-year plan formulated to achieve Vision 2021, includes targets to transform UAE’s school network and teaching methodologies into a ‘First-Rate Education System’.

One of the key targets is the improvement of student performance in reading, mathematics, and science as well as Arabic so that UAE ranks high in global educational metrics such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) as well as UAE’s National Assessment Programme. In order to achieve this, the Maths and Science curriculum and assessments are being modified to meet international standards.

As one of the best British schools in Sharjah, the International School of Creative Science — Muwaileh’s curriculum is modelled after the National Curriculum of England, which is known to be broad and balanced with equal emphasis on English, Maths and Science. Our iGCSE students secured the highest marks in subjects such as Physics, Biology and Arabic, with one student topping mathematics in the world.

Moreover, we try to foster a love for reading through guided reading lessons and events like Character Day where our Primary school students dress up and talk about their favourite book characters. Arabic learning is also emphasised with regular Arabic cultural programmes, such as the UAE Flag Day that is celebrated annually at Muwaileh. 

Another key target of the agenda is to introduce smart devices for teaching and improve the qualifications of leadership and teaching staff at all educational institutes. We frequently conduct programmes ranging from first aid to teaching with visual aids to give our staff the opportunity to update their credentials.

The agenda’s targets also includes increasing enrolment in preschools to give Emirati students a strong educational foundation that will boost graduation rates for secondary schools and reduce students’ need to enlist in foundation programs at university level.

With a focused approach on key subjects like Maths, Science, Arabic and English, timely enrolment, and qualified and well-equipped teachers, students in UAE schools will soon be able to outpace their counterparts all over the world. The vision of a ‘First-Rate Education system’ will lay the foundation for UAE to become a model nation with a strong reputation of educational excellence.
