Student from International School of Creative Science - Muwaileh elected to Sharjah Youth Council

During the 2018-19 academic year, the International School of Creative Science - Muwaileh participated in the election of new representatives to the Sharjah Youth Council. As one of the best British curriculum schools in the UAE, we regularly organise engagement sessions to develop our students’ sense of social responsibility. Five of our students ran in the election, highlighting our commitment to cultivating future leaders. We congratulate our Grade 11 student, Humaid Al Shamsi, who was elected as a member of the seventh annual Sharjah Youth Parliament. He will serve as one of the seven youth council members representing Sharjah.

Youth Councils in the UAE are designed to implement the UAE National Youth Strategy and engage young Emiratis in matters such as entrepreneurship, cultural diplomacy, and social responsibility. Local Youth Councils have been established in Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm Al Quwain. The Councils are set up at the Emirati, Local, Ministerial, Corporate and Global levels and are meant to be platforms to instil leadership values in young individuals, empowering them to compete and lead in multiple fields. Furthermore, the Councils provide a platform for young voices to register their needs and express their ideas.

As one of the best British curriculum schools in the UAE, we aim to educate our students about the importance of serving the community. Local Youth Councils are also opportunities for students to interact with peers nationally and internationally. As arenas of learning, they provide multiple knowledge-building sessions that mobilise youth and offer resources to encourage community building and networking.

Extra-curricular roles, such as a youth parliamentarian, can help students learn to mobilise support for causes, organise and implement youth initiatives, and engage in community development. We are considered to be amongst the best British curriculum schools in the UAE because we teach our students the importance of youth-led community action and leadership values. We ensure that our students are capable of leading the charge in youth-centered programmes and communities. To our latest student leader, Humaid Al Shamsi, we wish him success in his new position.
