School Initiatives: Think Science

Are your children budding innovators, science enthusiasts, or technological aficionados? Then you may have heard about the “Think Science” programme, a prestigious science exhibition and competition in the UAE aimed at engaging youth in science and technology.

Think Science has been inspiring youth for the past six years. It serves as a platform to engage and empower youth and brings together the region’s best and brightest, and, in doing so, connects, educates, and inspires youth to revolutionise the fields of science and technology. They are awarded the opportunity to showcase their talents, projects, prototypes and applications in regional Think Science Fairs and Competitions and the winners from each Emirate will go on to present their work at the national level Think Science Competition. Participants can become Think Science Ambassadors and inspire their classmates, as well as explore opportunities to nurture their talents and challenge themselves through local and global platforms and competitions.

Think Science gives youth the chance to put their talents to test. There are opportunities to investigate technical issues, develop solutions to complex world problems, and push the frontiers of science, technology, and innovation. The programme delivers hands-on-experience where young scientists and innovators work in teams. Collaboration is encouraged, leadership is cultivated, and ideas, creativity and innovation are fostered. Think Science is committed to the development of well-trained, motivated and innovative, complex-thinkers dedicated to further education and careers in science and technology.

For the International School of Creative Science – Al Muwaileh, the 2018-2019 academic year represents our third consecutive year in UAE’s Think Science Competition. Five group projects from the Secondary school have been selected for potential exhibition in the Think Science Competition.

Participation in extra-curricular activities, such as Think Science, is recognised as playing an important role in academic and future success. These student-centred activities offer enriching experiences that engage youth in critical decision-making, allowing them to tackle complex intellectual problems. They encourage interaction with like-minded peers from diverse backgrounds, which enhances social-skills, boosts social awareness and improves understanding of different perspectives. Extra-curricular activities are much needed for the development of the so-called “soft-skills,” which are vital to succeed in future professions and accomplish future career goals.
