What does military service mean for your child?

The International School of Creative Science - Nad Al Sheba strives to leave an indelible mark on the next generation of Emirati students. Not only are we proud to be one of the best schools teaching the British curriculum in Dubai, but we have also managed to create a perfect blend of Arabic tradition and modern educational techniques.

The academic rigor and discipline of the school also help Emirati young men prepare for their national service, which is required for all men aged between 18 and 30. Those who are unable to serve a military term due to medical or other reasons are exempt under the law.  While women can join the ranks, it is not compulsory and on a voluntary basis.

When it was introduced in 2014, the time period for service was set at one year. Students must complete their secondary high school certificate before they can be eligible for service. For graduating students who already have a job placement, there is no need to worry. Whilst employers can hire a temporary replacement, the positions of those who complete their national service is fully protected. Those serving continue to receive salaries, bonuses, and other benefits, which makes the prospect of military service less daunting than ever before.

Since its introduction in 2014, national service has confirmed numerous benefits upon those who serve and for the UAE.

Additionally, with national service, recruits learn good habits, like maintaining a disciplined regime, regular exercise, time management, and the importance of proper nutrition. Their time in the military also teaches them about the importance of giving back to the country.

National service recruits benefit in many more tangible ways as well. The added benefits of the military service include priority in employment for both public and private sectors. Housing plots, scholarships, and even marriage grants are also readily available for those who have served their country.

For many students, military service can initially seem a bit intimidating, but the International School of Creative Science - Nad Al Sheba prepares its students for this important milestone. We are proud to be amongst the top schools teaching the British curriculum in Dubai because we believe our holistic approach to education helps prepare students for the next step after graduation, including military service.
